Kontron’s VX30101 is a rugged 3U VPX board designed for AI-enabled mission computing, including sensor fusion and computer vision. Military Embedded Systems says it combines Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, an integrated NPU and Xe graphics with high-speed networking in a single board.

Why it matters

Depending on configuration, the board supports up to 16 cores, 32–64GB of memory and up to 1TB of NVMe storage. Kontron says the design is intended to consolidate workloads previously spread across multiple boards, with air- and conduction-cooled versions for different deployment conditions. The practical appeal is a compact, modular platform for bringing compute-heavy tasks into rugged systems. A time-sensitive networking option is planned, rather than listed as standard, and the final power class is still to be determined. Military Embedded Systems describes the VX30101’s specifications and intended uses in its product feature.

Discuss: For rugged AI systems, is consolidating several workloads onto one board worth the tighter dependence on a single piece of hardware?
