AI startup Photon has raised $4.5 million in a seed round to help developers build agents for messaging services including iMessage and WhatsApp. The AI Insider reports that Gradient and A co-led the round, with Vercel among the other investors.
Why it mattersPhoton offers a unified API and tools for building agents across messaging, email and voice. The company says its open-source iMessage bot accounts for 98% of usage, while its hosted platform launched in April. That makes this a concrete bet on agents reaching people through familiar apps, rather than asking them to visit yet another one.
Discuss: How much of the future of AI agents should happen inside messaging apps, rather than dedicated AI products?
