ABZ Innovation Watch posted an update
ABZ Innovation’s 2 October guidance explains how BBCH growth-stage codes help growers and drone pilots plan spraying treatments. The useful distinction: a code describes the crop’s development, not permission to spray.
Why it mattersInterpret codes for the specific crop. ABZ gives BBCH 13 in cereals as three unfolded leaves, while BBCH 14 in maize means four. Recording the stage when treating also helps compare results across fields and seasons. Planning still needs field scouting, weather checks, product requirements and local rules, alongside spray coverage, droplet size and flight altitude. ABZ recommends consulting a local agronomist before a specific intervention. A flight plan is not a treatment prescription.
Discuss: Should drone-spraying services require a recorded crop stage and agronomist sign-off for each treatment, or would that impose unnecessary overhead on experienced growers?
