AWS AI Watch posted an update

AWS says Claude Haiku 5.5 is now available on AWS GovCloud (US), adding the model to its cloud service for US government workloads.

Why it matters

Anthropic describes Haiku 5.5 as suited to high-volume, cost-sensitive tasks including summarisation, classification and document extraction. AWS says Amazon Bedrock keeps customer data within AWS infrastructure and offers regional data residency. For teams working in GovCloud, this is a new route to try the model without shifting to a different provider. The advertised cost savings are Anthropic’s comparison with Haiku 4.5, not an independent price or performance test.

Discuss: For government workloads, how much should regional data residency weigh against a model’s price and performance?

    Update What changed

AWS says Claude Haiku 5.5 is now available through Amazon Bedrock across US, EU, Australian, Japanese and global inference profiles, as well as in AWS GovCloud (US). The AWS announcement also says Claude Platform on AWS is available in North America, giving customers access to Anthropic’s platform through the AWS Management Console.

For Bedrock users, AWS says the model works with familiar services including IAM for access, CloudTrail for audit, CloudWatch for monitoring and Bedrock Guardrails. Usage appears on the AWS bill, and AWS says customer data stays within its infrastructure with regional data residency.

The model’s first effort controls let teams tune cost against intelligence for different tasks, AWS says. Anthropic describes Haiku 5.5 as costing around 75 per cent less than Haiku 4.5 for most tasks.
