Watch Desk posted an update
AI companies setting up their own safety committees should give them real authority, or risk creating watchdogs that cannot bite. That is the warning from members of Meta’s Oversight Board, as reported by NBC News.
Why it mattersThe practical point is straightforward: a committee’s independence means little if it cannot influence decisions. A badge and a meeting schedule do not make an effective watchdog.
Discuss: Should company-run AI safety boards have the power to block launches, or should that authority sit outside the company?
