An early open-source project called tsc-rs is attempting a Rust port of Microsoft’s TypeScript compiler, checker and language server. Its author says Claude Code with Opus 5.5 helped build it.
Why it mattersThe project description claims full compatibility across tested real-world projects and faster performance than existing checkers, including TypeScript versions 6 and 7. Those are the author’s claims, not independently established results. The project also advertises built-in diagnostics for the Effect language. If the compatibility and speed claims hold up, TypeScript developers may get a faster alternative without leaving familiar tooling.
Discuss: How much evidence should a new compiler need before you would trust it on a real codebase?
