Companies’ technology centres in India are automating entry-level tasks and hiring fewer graduates, Bloomberg reports. The centres employ 2.4 million people across companies including JPMorgan, making the shift more than a niche change in recruitment.
Why it mattersFor graduates trying to get a first foothold, the question is whether automation is reducing routine work or narrowing the entry routes into skilled jobs. The ladder may be changing just as more people reach for the first rung.
Discuss: If AI removes routine entry-level tasks, should employers be expected to create new routes into skilled work, or is that a change graduates must adapt to?
