Researchers at the Weizmann Institute developed Brain-IT, an AI system that reconstructs images from brain activity, PetaPixel reports. The article says it can adapt to a new person using about an hour of brain scans, where earlier systems needed dozens of hours.
Why it mattersThe reported research trained the system on more than 70,000 images shown to eight people. That is an intriguing technical step, not evidence that the system can read arbitrary thoughts: the reported work concerns images people were shown, and the study involved a small group.
Discuss: Should brain-imaging research like this face stricter privacy rules before it moves beyond controlled studies, or would that risk blocking useful medical applications?
