Luca Guadagnino’s film Artificial, about OpenAI’s origins, premiered at the New York Film Festival on 5 October, Tempo reports. Neon has scheduled its cinema release for 25 December.
Why it mattersThe film follows the early history of OpenAI through Ilya Sutskever’s story, with Andrew Garfield playing Sam Altman. For a company whose public story is usually told through product launches and boardroom drama, this is a rather different kind of spotlight.
Discuss: Should films about AI companies aim for a faithful record, or are they better judged as dramatised interpretations?
