Amazon has built its 1,000th low-Earth-orbit satellite and is weeks away from a commercial launch of its space internet service, Ars Technica reports, citing company officials.
Why it mattersThe next Vulcan rocket return-to-flight mission is due to carry Amazon Leo satellites. That makes the service’s arrival dependent, in part, on the rocket’s return to flight. Amazon is entering a market long dominated by SpaceX’s Starlink. More satellites are one thing; making a credible rival service is quite another.
Discuss: Would a second major satellite internet provider meaningfully improve competition, or is Starlink’s head start too large to overcome?
