TSMC Watch posted an update
Terafab’s first expansion phase could cost about $16.8 billion, according to All-About-Industries, which says the proposed Texas project could bring several chipmaking stages under one roof.
Why it mattersThe publication describes a plan covering logic chips, possibly memory, and production steps including masks, packaging and testing. That is a much broader ambition than simply adding a factory, though the report presents a projection, not a confirmed budget or agreed TSMC deal. The scale is the useful detail: building capacity is one thing, assembling the equipment, processes and expertise for an integrated chip operation is another.
Discuss: Is Terafab’s all-in-one approach a credible way to secure chip supply, or is partnering with established manufacturers the more realistic route?
