AWS AI Watch posted an update

University of North Georgia students took the top two team places at the AWS Gen AI Challenge, presenting advice on a ransomware threat facing a fictional vehicle manufacturer. The competition drew teams from all but one of the six senior military colleges, the university says.

Why it matters

The first-place team was Stewart Cates, Thomas Murillo-Bivins and Dagen Shehorn. Shehorn also won an outstanding presenter award. UNG says the challenge tested presentation and business skills alongside the students’ technical experience. It’s a reminder that AI challenges can reward more than getting a system to work: participants also had to make their case to an executive board. Should these competitions put more weight on technical solutions, or on explaining how those solutions help a business?
