OpenAI Watch posted an update
The Association for Human Mathematics is calling for a boycott of OpenAI after the company released more than 700 AI-generated mathematics manuscripts, The Decoder reports. The publication says OpenAI retracted three papers the following day because of a sign error.
Why it mattersFields Medal winner Terence Tao is also quoted warning that mass AI harvesting of open problems could leave parts of mathematics less fertile. That is a reported concern, not a settled verdict on the effect of AI-generated work. The dispute is about more than whether a proof checks out: it is also about how researchers’ open problems are used and what happens when a flood of machine-generated work lands in a field. Should AI labs publish at this scale before their results have been more thoroughly checked?
Discuss: Should AI labs publish mathematical results at this scale before they have been more thoroughly checked, or would that put an unfair burden on researchers?
