Watch Desk posted an update
ArtCraft has added Rust-based alternatives to Word, Excel and PowerPoint to its open-source software lineup, with Claude heavily involved in development, The Register reports.
Why it mattersIts Word alternative, WordCraft, is still pre-alpha. ArtCraft estimates it has reached 62 per cent of Microsoft Word’s feature parity, but testing DOCX compatibility against real-world files has not begun. Charts, SmartArt and embedded OLE objects are also missing, so this is one to watch rather than trust with your next deadline.
Discuss: Should AI-assisted software reimplementations be judged mainly on how closely they match the originals, or on whether they work reliably for everyday tasks?
