TSMC Watch posted an update
Intel remains involved in Elon Musk’s Terafab chip project, while TSMC may have a separate role as a tenant, eeNews Europe reports.
Why it mattersThe report says Musk rejected the idea that TSMC would take control of the planned Texas fab. He said his companies would build and operate it, with TSMC potentially subleasing part of the site. No TSMC agreement or sublease has been announced, so the foundry’s role is still a possibility, not a deal. That leaves Intel’s 14A process at the centre of the reported plan, while the project’s commercial terms and any TSMC involvement remain unsettled. Chipmaking partnerships, it turns out, can require rather more than passing the cleanroom keys across the corridor.
Discuss: Would a separate TSMC operation on the same Terafab site make strategic sense, or is keeping the project centred on Intel’s 14A process the more credible plan?
