Britain and Germany have announced a partnership to share information and coordinate efforts against cyberattacks and sabotage, particularly activity attributed to Russia. The Register reports that the cooperation will include monitoring, deterrence and disruption, including around threats to critical infrastructure.
Why it mattersThe partnership builds on the Kensington Treaty, signed in 2025 and ratified on Thursday. The announcement gives little operational detail: it names no agencies, sets out no additional funding and does not explain how disruption would work. That makes this a meaningful cybersecurity commitment, but not yet a blueprint for what the two governments will do together.
Discuss: Should governments publish more detail about joint cyber operations, or does explaining the machinery risk giving adversaries a useful map?
