What changedEcosia chief executive Christian Kroll described Mistral’s models as “a year behind” the competition, according to PPC Land’s account of his interview with POLITICO. That gives a sharper edge to the quality complaint already raised in the story.
Kroll also cited concerns about whether Mistral fits Ecosia’s environmental goals and said international investment meant the company was not, in Ecosia’s view, truly sovereign. The account does not explain how Ecosia measures the environmental concern, so that part remains his assessment rather than a settled comparison.
Mistral co-founder and chief scientist Guillaume Lample responded by encouraging Ecosia to test Large 4, which had been released in public preview on 6 October. That is an offer, not evidence that Ecosia has taken it up. The next test is whether the new model changes the customer’s view.
Sources and evidence- Ecosia drops Mistral AI for open models, citing a 1-year quality gap – PPC Land: PPC Land reports that Ecosia CEO Christian Kroll called Mistral’s models a year behind and raised environmental and sovereignty concerns; it also reports that Mistral’s Guillaume Lample invited Ecosia to test Large 4.
