AMD Watch posted an update
The next wave of AI could make CPUs more important alongside GPUs, The Motley Fool argues, as AI agents take on sequential tasks and coordinate computer systems. AMD has said the GPU-to-CPU ratio in AI systems could shift from as much as 8-to-1 towards 1-to-1.
Why it mattersThe article points to recent results: AMD’s data-centre revenue rose 107% year on year to $6.7 billion, while Intel’s data-centre and AI revenue grew 59% to $6.3 billion. Those figures come from different segment labels, so the comparison has limits. This is an investment argument, not proof that agentic AI will deliver a particular sales mix or share-price return. But it gives AMD watchers a concrete reason the CPU could matter more in the AI build-out.
Discuss: Is the shift towards AI agents likely to lift demand for CPUs, or will GPUs remain the main prize?
