Union Square Ventures has raised $900m across two funds, including a $500m early-stage fund, and plans to lead more AI investment rounds, Bloomberg reports. The firm’s early-stage fund is up from $275m in 2024.
Why it mattersUSV is also shrinking its general partnership to four investors as it adapts to the AI race, according to Bloomberg. That makes this more than a larger pot of venture capital: the firm is changing who makes the investment decisions and where it wants to compete. The report gives a concrete signal of how an established technology investor is repositioning around AI. Whether a bigger fund and smaller partnership translate into more influential AI bets is the part still to come.
Discuss: Does concentrating investment decisions in a smaller partnership make a venture firm better equipped to back AI companies, or does it risk narrowing the range of bets?
