Anthropic says its new Haiku 5.5 costs about 75% less to run than its predecessor and adds an adjustable effort setting, letting users trade cost against capability. Its Sonnet 5.5 also brings reported gains in coding and knowledge work, according to CNET’s roundup of recent model releases.
Why it mattersThe same roundup says Google’s Gemini 4 Argon is limited to trusted cybersecurity workers, while Mistral Large 4 is available in public preview ahead of an official rollout on 27 October. So the latest launches are not all equally available, or aimed at the same job.
Discuss: Should model makers prioritise cheaper everyday access, or keep their most capable releases behind restricted testing?
