Spotifast, an open-source Spotify client written in Rust, is pitched as a lighter alternative to the official desktop app. Tom’s Hardware reports that its developer estimates Spotifast should use 150–200 MB of RAM, compared with 600 MB to 1 GB for Spotify’s client. That is the developer’s estimate, not an independent benchmark.
Why it mattersThe client is available for Windows, macOS and Linux, but requires Spotify Premium. It does not yet support lossless audio, and the report cautions that a new app may still have rough edges. Read Tom’s Hardware’s report on Spotifast.
Discuss: Would you trade Spotify’s official client for a lighter alternative that lacks lossless audio, or is the memory saving not worth the compromise?
