Microsoft has released Brewlet as a pre-1.0 preview, a tool for running Java applications from OCI artifacts on Kubernetes. It lets platform teams manage shared JDKs on cluster nodes while developers publish JAR files and metadata.
Why it mattersThe project says applications can be packaged without Dockerfiles. Its components include a Kubernetes operator, a node provisioner, a containerd runtime shim and a Maven plugin. That could simplify how teams manage Java runtimes across Kubernetes, though Brewlet is still a preview.
Discuss: Would you trust a centrally managed, shared JDK layer for production workloads, or keep each application’s runtime bundled separately?
