Watch Desk posted an update
A Keurig smart coffee maker appeared to send more than 1TB of data over its home network in ten days, but the device’s owner later said the network equipment had not reported an actual 1TB upload. Tom’s Hardware reports that he suspected mostly local junk data, and did not capture the traffic to establish what it was.
Why it mattersRebooting the brewer and moving it to a segregated network stopped the problem temporarily, the owner said. The episode is a useful reminder that a startling traffic reading is not proof of data being sent out of the house.
Discuss: What should smart-device makers have to show when a network anomaly like this is reported: a clear technical explanation, or a fix even before the cause is known?
