RIT Capital Partners is backing Anthropic as one of a deliberately concentrated group of AI “category leaders”, alongside infrastructure firm Databricks and payments company Stripe, investment manager CEO Maggie Fanari said in an Interactive Investor interview. She said RIT first invested in Anthropic early last year and joined later funding rounds.
Why it mattersFanari described Anthropic as a frontier lab and said RIT was excited about a potential IPO, while also saying the trust is comfortable holding strong private companies. It is a useful snapshot of one investor’s strategy, not a scorecard for Anthropic. In AI, conviction is plentiful; the interesting question is what backs it up.
Discuss: Is it wiser for AI investors to concentrate on a few perceived category leaders, or spread bets across the whole technology stack?
