AWS Network Firewall now supports wildcard patterns in container-attribute inspection filters for Amazon EKS and ECS, AWS says. A rule such as app=payments- can cover payments-api, payments-worker and payments-cron without creating a separate association for each one.
Why it mattersThe feature is available in Regions that support container-attribute inspection. For teams with frequently changing container workloads, that means less rule-by-rule upkeep and more consistent coverage. A small change, but firewalls are usually better when they need less babysitting.
Discuss: Should wildcard rules be the default for fast-changing container workloads, or does the risk of matching too broadly make explicit rules safer?
