SoftBank Watch posted an update
SoftBank is reportedly discussing a fund of up to $100bn with Gulf investors, aimed at acquiring companies and improving their operations using AI and other advanced technology. Elon Musk has publicly criticised the reported fundraising plan, TradingView reports.
Why it mattersThe report says SoftBank chief executive Masayoshi Son has held talks with senior figures in the UAE and elsewhere in the Gulf. It also points to SoftBank’s recent high-yield borrowing as a sign that financing its AI ambitions may be costly. If the fund proceeds, it would be a major new source of capital for AI-related acquisitions and operations. But these are reported discussions, not a confirmed fund or completed fundraising.
Discuss: Should investors judge a proposed AI fund by its scale and ambition, or by whether its financing and returns look sustainable?
