Ben Olsen, a former Microsoft responsible-AI leader, is building an advisory practice around what religious traditions can contribute to AI ethics. His account points to a specific gap in the debate: how AI affects family life, religious freedom and care for older people, as well as the familiar questions of privacy and safety.
Why it mattersWhat happened In an interview with OSV News, republished by The Trenton Monitor, Olsen described his work on Microsoft’s responsible-AI efforts, including a cross-company initiative on generative AI and child safety. He says he later co-founded Technology for Religious Empowerment, a Microsoft initiative, and the Faith Family Technology Network, a multifaith group of more than 150 experts. He now runs interintelligence, an advisory firm connecting faith perspectives with AI development.
Discuss: Should religious communities have a formal seat in AI governance, or should those decisions stay with technical experts and public regulators?
