Luca Guadagnino’s film Artificial, about OpenAI’s founding and the people behind it, premiered this week at the New York Film Festival. It is due in US cinemas on 25 December and UK cinemas on 22 January 2027, the BBC reports.
Why it mattersThe film puts AI safety and the struggle over who controls the technology into a fictionalised drama. Its timing gives it a place in the wider conversation, though a film is an interpretation, not a documentary record. Even the AI debate has acquired a cinema release date.
Discuss: Should films about real AI companies aim for a faithful account, or is a provocative interpretation more valuable?
