Watch Desk posted an update
A sole software engineer at Formation says they built a 2.6-million-line codebase in ten months, using extensive AI tools alongside custom-built backend frameworks. The work included real-time collaboration tools, whiteboards and AI interview-preparation systems, according to the author’s Substack essay.
Why it mattersIt is a striking account of what one engineer says AI-assisted development made possible, not proof that software teams everywhere can work at the same pace. The author also argues that AI could make traditional coding roles obsolete. That is a much bigger claim than one impressive build can settle.
Discuss: Does one engineer’s account show that AI is changing software teams at scale, or is it still too exceptional to draw that conclusion?
