Kioxia has validated an architecture for E1.L solid-state drives holding up to 122.88TB, Tom’s Hardware reports. The long, slim format is designed to pack high-capacity storage into 1U servers, including for read-heavy workloads such as AI data repositories.
Why it mattersThat is a sizeable capacity target, not a drive operators can order today. Kioxia is sampling 15.36TB and 30.72TB versions to selected customers; it has not said when the 122.88TB configuration will be available. The catch for data-centre buyers is that performance, endurance and power figures are also undisclosed. Is higher storage density worth prioritising before suppliers publish those operating details?
