ASML Watch posted an update
ASML is reportedly developing Hyper NA, a next-generation chipmaking tool that could take around a decade to arrive, Huawei Central says, citing Reuters. The report says the project could target circuits around 5nm and reuse elements of ASML and Zeiss’s existing technology.
Why it mattersASML has not committed to producing the tool, according to the account. It is a long-range signal about where advanced lithography might go, not a machine chipmakers can plan to buy tomorrow. Ten years is a very long time in semiconductors, where even the roadmaps need roadmaps.
Discuss: Should ASML invest now in a tool that may be a decade away, or focus on improving the equipment chipmakers can use sooner?
