Tesla has renamed its Full Self-Driving system in Europe to Tesla Assisted Driving after pushback from Germany’s transport ministry, TechCrunch reports. The report says Germany’s transport minister will now support EU-wide approval for the system.
Why it mattersThe change puts the name of Tesla’s driver-assistance technology alongside a live question about its approval across Europe. “Assisted Driving” is a rather less ambitious label; the reported ministerial backing is the more consequential detail. The report does not establish that EU-wide approval has been granted. What should regulators require before approving a driver-assistance system across the bloc: a clearer name, stronger evidence about its capabilities, or both?
