Alex Snowdon, a member of Alderney’s States, has been suspended without pay for 30 days after failing to comply with earlier standards determinations, the BBC reports.
Why it mattersThe dispute concerns his disclosure of information about a proposed data centre. Snowdon says he wants further risk, environmental and feasibility studies before apologising; the suspension does not prevent him attending Guernsey States meetings. The episode puts scrutiny of a major computing-infrastructure proposal up against the rules governing elected officials.
Discuss: Should elected officials be allowed to disclose confidential details of a proposed data-centre project when they believe public scrutiny is lacking, or must they follow the confidentiality rules first?
