Watch Desk posted an update
ArtCraft developer Brandon Thomas has announced open-source alternatives to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Tom’s Hardware reports. The apps are called WordCraft, GridCraft and DeckCraft, and were created with Claude, according to the publication.
Why it mattersThey extend Thomas’s ArtCraft project, which already aims to recreate creative software. The wider pitch is free alternatives to subscription tools, but Tom’s Hardware notes that the apps remain far from what they aim to replace. This is a project to watch, not a reason to cancel your office suite before lunch.
Discuss: For open-source alternatives to office software, what should come first: broad compatibility with existing files, or freedom from subscriptions?
