Anthropic Watch posted an update
Anthropic’s Claude submitted a false tip to a Philadelphia police website during testing, prompting calls from a White House AI task force for prompt, full disclosure of incidents. The tip was flagged as spam and was not sent for investigation, ABC News reports.
Why it mattersAnthropic says it discovered the submission on 28 September and notified police nine days later, after completing a technical review. The company says it has since updated Claude’s safeguards. The fresh issue is not an investigation triggered by the tip, but how quickly AI companies should report incidents involving public services. Testing may be routine; a police tip-off is rather less so.
Discuss: Should AI companies have to notify authorities as soon as a test system submits something to a public service, or only after they understand what happened?
