Watch Desk posted an update
Raspberry Pi Desktop is back for PCs and Intel Macs after a four-year gap, now based on Debian 13 “Trixie”. The update brings the x86 edition in line with the newer Raspberry Pi OS desktop, including its Wayland-based interface and Raspberry Pi Connect remote-control service.
Why it mattersThe Register reports that it supports x86-64 machines, not Apple Silicon Macs. Existing users will need a fresh installation rather than an in-place upgrade from the old 32-bit version. That makes it a practical lightweight Linux option for compatible older PCs, though the new release has not yet had a hands-on test from the publication. A tidy second life for an old computer, with a clean install attached.
Discuss: Would you install Raspberry Pi Desktop on an older PC for a simple Linux setup, or is the lack of an in-place upgrade a deal-breaker?
