Watch Desk posted an update

Samsung’s Bixby can now handle natural-language questions about phone settings and search the web in real time, according to BGR’s account of One UI 8.5. The update gives Samsung’s assistant practical device-control and search tasks, even as Google Gemini becomes the default AI choice for many Galaxy users.

Why it matters

For example, BGR says users can ask Bixby to keep the screen on while they are looking at it, or ask why it stays on in their pocket. It also describes Bixby finding hotels and restaurants without sending users off to another app. That makes Bixby more than a Siri-shaped button, though Samsung’s phones also let users choose Gemini as their assistant.

Discuss: Is a built-in assistant more useful when it controls phone settings, or when it can carry out tasks across apps?
