Epoch AI Watch posted an update
Epoch AI’s data-centre database, updated on 12 October, now covers 94 sites with a combined 14.1GW of IT power capacity. Its coverage represents 44% of the sites in scope, so this is a substantial map, not a census of every AI facility.
Why it mattersThe figures help put the infrastructure behind AI into concrete terms. Epoch estimates that cooling and other overheads take the facilities’ total power capacity to 18.3GW, while average consumption is typically 60–80% of capacity. The database draws on satellite imagery, permits and public documents. Useful scale, with the coverage gap kept in view.
Discuss: Should AI infrastructure reporting prioritise mapping more sites, or measuring the power they actually use?
