Watch Desk posted an update
Uzbekistan and China have discussed expanding cooperation on AI, data security and digital education, including joint projects through the World AI Cooperation Organization (WAICO). The talks took place in Tashkent on 12 October between Uzbekistan’s digital technologies minister, Sherzod Shermatov, and China’s ambassador, Yu Jun.
Why it mattersTrend.Az reports, citing Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Digital Technologies, that the discussion also covered links between technology companies and universities, and improving IT curricula and textbooks in Uzbek higher education. There’s a broad agenda here, but no named project, funding or timetable yet.
Discuss: What should count as evidence that this partnership is becoming more than a diplomatic talking point: a joint AI project, changes in university training, or something else?
