TSMC Watch posted an update

TSMC could increase its 2-nanometre production capacity by 22% by mid-2027, with 3nm capacity set to rise 16%, The Motley Fool reports, citing TrendForce. The figures point to a coming expansion in advanced-chip supply used by AI customers.

Why it matters

The article also says TSMC plans to raise prices for advanced nodes by 5% to 10% next year, attributing that claim to Taiwan’s national news agency. More capacity and higher prices would give TSMC room to serve demand while improving the economics of its most advanced production. These are reported plans and forecasts, not confirmed capacity already online. Still, the numbers offer a more concrete measure of the AI-chip build-out than another round of stock-price crystal-ball gazing.

Discuss: If advanced-chip capacity expands while prices rise, which matters more for the AI supply crunch: more wafers or better access to them?

The Motley Fool’s updated account says TSMC’s third-quarter revenue reached US$46.71 billion, up 50% year on year and above the company’s stated guidance range of US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion.

The article also says revenue rose 55% in September and 53% in August compared with the same months last year. Across the first nine months of 2026, it puts revenue growth at 41% year on year.

The Motley Fool cites Reuters for an estimate that net profit will rise 64% from a year earlier, and says TSMC is on track for a sixth consecutive quarter of record profits. That profit figure is an expectation, not a reported result.
