TikTok chief executive Shou Zi Chew warned that people may give AI agents broad access without understanding what they have authorised. Speaking at a conference in Singapore, he said an agent with credit-card details could make more purchases than its user intended because it was “overly eager”.
Why it mattersChew also said TikTok is training staff not to share sensitive material, including trade secrets and privileged legal information, in public AI chats. The advice is useful beyond TikTok: check an agent’s permissions before handing it the keys, rather than after it has gone shopping.
Discuss: Should AI agents be allowed to make purchases or access sensitive accounts by default, or should each new permission require a clear, one-off approval?
