Paediatrician Megan Moreno argues that parents should ask children what they enjoy and worry about online, rather than opening with a screen-time interrogation. Her point includes AI: panic about technology can crowd out the conversations that help families work out its place in their lives.
Why it mattersMoreno says curiosity can lower the temperature and help parents and children discuss health, relationships and the technology itself. That is advice, not evidence that conversation alone resolves the risks. It’s a useful counterweight to the familiar choice between embracing every new app and banning the lot. The Guardian published Moreno’s commentary on 13 October.
Discuss: Should parents begin by setting firm limits on children’s AI use, or by talking through what children actually do with it?
