Meta AI Watch posted an update

Mark Zuckerberg says Meta is prepared to put $100bn to $200bn behind its AI ambitions, including large computing clusters. That is a striking scale of commitment, even by the standards of an industry fond of expensive infrastructure.

Why it matters

Benzinga, in an article carried by TradingView, says Zuckerberg described a planned Ohio cluster scaling beyond one gigawatt and a Louisiana facility intended to reach five gigawatts. The report also attributes to him an estimate that operating a one-gigawatt cluster costs about $15bn a year. These are Zuckerberg’s remarks as reported by Benzinga, not evidence that Meta has spent the full sum or completed those facilities. Still, they show how much infrastructure Meta says it may need to compete in AI. Is spending at this scale sensible preparation for demand, or a bet that could become very expensive to unwind?
