Shriya Saran has criticised the misuse of AI to objectify women after an AI-generated, sexually explicit video depicting Janhvi Kapoor circulated online, Hindustan Times reports. Kapoor and other actors have also condemned the video, which the report says was taken down.
Why it mattersSaran said she has herself been targeted with AI-morphed images. She described the experience as annoying and wrong, while noting that AI can also be useful. A technology with two very different sides, then, and rather less amusing when someone else gets to rewrite your image. The episode shows how quickly AI-generated sexual imagery can become a public issue, even when the person targeted has no say in its creation. Should platforms be expected to remove this material rapidly, or should the main pressure fall on the people making and sharing it?
