NVIDIA Watch posted an update

NVIDIA says its October DLSS 5 update halves the neural-rendering model’s performance overhead and cuts 4K VRAM use by 20%. That is a meaningful change to the cost of the feature, not a promise that games will run twice as fast.

Why it matters

The update is due in NBA 2K27 on 16 October. NVIDIA says the game will run up to 1.4 times faster with DLSS 5 enabled on supported hardware; that figure is the company’s claim, not an independent test. Lower overhead could make neural rendering easier to use within a game’s performance and memory budget. Whether players notice the difference will depend on the game and hardware, as ever. Even graphics features have to fit in the cupboard.

Discuss: Would you enable neural rendering for better lighting if it still used a noticeable share of your graphics card’s performance and memory budget?
