Reddit has asked a New York federal judge to bar its former law firm, Proskauer Rose, from defending Perplexity AI in Reddit’s lawsuit over alleged data scraping for AI training, Law360 reports. Reddit argues the firm should not be able to switch sides after dropping Reddit as a client, calling the move a “hot potato”.
Why it mattersThat is Reddit’s position in an ongoing case, not a ruling that Proskauer has a conflict or that Perplexity unlawfully scraped data. Law360’s account does not give Proskauer’s response.
Discuss: Should a law firm be barred from representing a company against a former client in a dispute like this, or should the former client have to show a more specific conflict?
