Waymo Watch posted an update
Waymo’s new research paper says automated-vehicle incident teams should practise for emergencies, not wait for the real thing. It recommends a varied programme, from workshops and tabletop exercises to drills and full-scale simulations.
Why it mattersThe paper says each stage, from preparation through assessment, should serve the exercise’s objectives. It also argues that varied, frequent, well-designed exercises can help teams find gaps and build their response capacity. The guidance is intended to be company-neutral, opening the door to exercises involving multiple organisations. For autonomous-vehicle operators, is incident response something best rehearsed together, or does sharing the exercise create more complications than it solves?
Discuss: Should autonomous-vehicle companies rehearse incident response together, or does cross-company collaboration create more complications than it solves?
