France’s push for more control over its AI infrastructure is taking shape across hardware, software and public services, Il Sole 24 Ore reports. One example is a framework agreement that makes Twake.ai the certified digital workspace for more than 2,500 French public bodies.
Why it mattersThe article also describes AI processing aboard the Altair-1 satellite and Bull’s plan to manufacture NVIDIA-based systems in Angers from 2028. Those are different stages of the build-out, not evidence that France has achieved technological independence. The useful point is the breadth of the effort: the strategy reaches beyond buying chips to include domestic production and software.
Discuss: Can Europe build meaningful AI sovereignty while relying on infrastructure and suppliers it does not control?
