Navitas Semiconductor has announced a 24 kW power board designed for AI data centres and the NVIDIA MGX ecosystem. It converts 800 volts directly to 12 volts and has a target efficiency of 97% at full load, according to Benzinga’s account of the announcement.
Why it mattersNavitas says mounting it close to the compute processors helps cut power losses. It is a concrete attempt to tackle the less glamorous bottleneck behind AI computing: getting enough electricity to the chips.
Discuss: As AI data centres demand more power, should hardware makers prioritise higher conversion efficiency or simpler, more reliable power systems?
