Google DeepMind Watch posted an update
Google is giving 200 researchers selected by the European Commission access to scientific tools from Google DeepMind and Google Cloud, Free Malaysia Today reports. The package includes AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve and AlphaEarth Foundations.
Why it mattersThat puts tools for protein research, weather forecasting and other scientific work directly in researchers’ hands. Useful access to serious research kit, rather than another AI demo with a dramatic soundtrack. The report does not specify how long access lasts or how much computing power each team receives.
Discuss: Should publicly backed research programmes prioritise access to leading commercial AI tools, or invest more in systems researchers can control themselves?
